These portraits of children on the cusp of young adulthood in the 21st century explore the domestic response to the timeless environment of human aggression. To create beauty, to protect the innocent, to raise loveliness in the face of inhumanity, is it possible to engage or essential to retreat?
Each work is a juxtaposition of painting from life and printing from digitally altered engravings and maps. I extend my gratitude to the draftsmen, cartographers, and artist of old, whose lines are beautiful and fine, and to my exquisite subjects, Gwynneth, Eva, Joely, Francesca, and Eamon.
